When you are planning your vacation to Yellowstone National Park, you should try and spend at least one night at one of the historic Yellowstone hotels. A majority of the lodging in Yellowstone is only available during the summer months.
There is a wide range of lodges, hotels and cabins that provide you with lodging within and in in the small communities adjacent to Yellowstone National Park.
Yellowstone National Park lodging is operated by Xanterra, the company that runs the concessions in Yellowstone. A majority of the Yellowstone Lodges are historic and great care is taken to preserve the historic character of the facilities.
Lodging Inside Yellowstone National Park
Within the boundaries of Yellowstone Park, there are nine different lodging properties:
Canyon Lodge: 527 cabins and 81 rooms
Grant Village: 300 units
Lake Lodge Cabins: 186 units
Lake Yellowstone Hotel & Cabins: 194 rooms and 102 cabins
Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins: 97 rooms and 116 cabins
Old Faithful Inn: 327 units
Old Faithful Lodge Cabins: 97 cabins
Old Faithful Snow Lodge & Cabins: 100 rooms and 34 cabins.
Roosevelt Lodge Cabins: 80 cabins
Remember that lodging within Yellowstone National Park fills up quickly, so be sure to make your reservations as early as possible.
Yellowstone's Famous Old Faithful Inn
As a national historic landmark, Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park is the most requested lodging facility in the park. The rustic-style lodge, with log and wood shingle exterior is located adjacent to the world famous Old Faithful Geyser.
The original part of the Inn, known as the "Old House" was completed in 1904 and includes an immense lobby with a huge stone fireplace. More information about Lodging at Old Faithful.
Yellowstone Lake Lodge and Cabins
From the large porch of the main log lodge, time is captured in the shimmering reflections of mountains on Yellowstone Lake.
The Lake Lodge in Yellowstone National Park is an inviting location where cozy cabins and cafeteria style dining provide a family-friendly atmosphere.
The main lodge houses a beautiful lobby where two fireplaces, a lounge and gift shop provide a warm comfortable location for guests to visit. Quaint cabins with private baths are located nearby.
Grant Village was named after president Grant who signed the law which created Yellowstone as the first national park. Lodging accomodations includes 6 two-story buildings that each have 50 rooms. Grant Village is located on the southwest shore of Yellowstone Lake and is located about 20 miles from Old Faithful and is the nearest closest location to Grand Teton National Park.
Yellowstone's Canyon Lodge & Cabins
Located near the spectacular Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and its Lower Falls, the Canyon Lodge is the most central of the park's 9 locations. It's ideal for hiking and other outdoor activities.
Cabins built in the 1950's and 60's are arranged on loops, while two new lodges house over 80 hotel style rooms. All rooms and cabins have private baths. More information about Yellowstone Park Canyon lodging.
Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Cabins are located near Yellowstone National Park headquarters. Mammoth is where most of the early visitors to Yellowstone stayed overnight and started their vacations. Mammoth Hot Springs is known for the limestone formations that have built up over the years. Elk are commonly observed around the Mammoth Hot Springs town site.
Roosevelt Lodge Cabins consists of a rustic lodge and cabins that were built in an area that Teddy Roosevelt liked when he visited Yellowstone. You can stay in the cabins and eat dinner in the lodge. This is a great place for families to stay.
Nearby there is a large corral where you can ride horses, have a stagecoach adventure, and take part in an Old West Dinner Cookout. Roosevelt Lodge Cabins are usually available from mid-June through Labor Day.
Yellowstone National Park lodging offers you a unique vacation experience. All of the park accommodations are non-smoking, and televisions, radios, air conditioning, and Internet hook-ups are not available. In-room phones are not available at all locations. Cell phone coverage is very limited throughout the park and there are no swimming pools available. Wheelchair accessible accommodations are available on a limited basis. The accommodations are rustic and very comfortable.
Xanterra Parks & Resorts is the primary authorized concessioner in Yellowstone National Park. They are the direct in-park source for lodging, camping, and activities in Yellowstone. They never charge a booking fee to make reservations, like some reservations services.
